The VPI Classic Signature Turntable – now includes the VPI Classic 3D Tonearm
Stereophile Analog Product of the year
Golden Ear Award – TAS, AHC
The VPI Classic Signature turntable is the fastest, most coherent-sounding VPI turntable I’ve ever heard. Its measured accuracy and consistency of speed were about as good as a belt-drive turntable can achieve, and its combination of a high-mass plinth, a superbly machined aluminum platter, a carefully damped and isolated motor, and the JMW-Classic—a fully realized version of VPI’s JMW tonearm—make this remarkably compact, easy-to-set-up turntable one of today’s great values in analog audio. I don’t hear how you can go wrong buying one.

“With its Classic, VPI Industries offers what is essentially a tonally neutral deck with a wiry direct character of high dynamic reflexes and superb soundstaging. Listeners favoring a warm, relaxed or even cozy take won’t buy into it but those into a lively involving presentation with a well-sorted broad stage won’t have many alternatives at this price. On those aspects, VPI’s Classic is arguably quite the benchmark.”

“The VPI Classic Signature Turntable, in my opinion, exceeds the performance of [VPI’s] ScoutMaster series and breaks new sonic ground… at a breathtakingly low price. I think this is Weisfeld’s best sounding design. If ever there were a best buy in ‘tables, this is it!”
– Harry Pearson, The Absolute Sound, Golden Ear Award Issue
VPI Classic Signature Turntable
The Classic line pays homage to the great turntables of the past that have been synonymous with state of the art turntable design. The Classic has been the best-selling large turntable VPI has ever made and is still outselling production. The sales and rave reviews from around the world are based on the glorious sound and the incredible speed stability, speed stability normally associated with $20K plus designs. The top of the line VPI Classic Signature Turntable represents a significant step forward in both performance and aesthetics pushing the envelope as far as we can to deliver the best sounding turntable VPI has ever made at an unheard of price.
The newest VPI Classic Signature Turntable features a ½” thick machined aluminum plinth bonded to a 1/8″ steel sub plate, bonded to 2″ of MDF creating a plinth which is so massive and well damped it virtually eliminates resonance. To complete the visual aesthetic of this state of the art design, VPI chose a deep Piano Black and Rosewood finish. Gorgeous and glorious, the Classic Signature is an absolute triumph! Manufacturers who have received it are using adjectives like “Gorgeous”, “Quietest table I’ve ever heard”, “How could it be so inexpensive”, “Speed stability like my digital masters”.

The VPI Classic SignaureTurntable:
•The platter is machined 6061 aluminum and stainless steel weighing 20 pounds with a precision inverted bearing. Run-out +/- .001” on 39” circumference!!!
•Platter bearing using Thompson Engineering precision shafting with 60 Rockwell hardened and polished ball running on a PEEK thrust disc. The side thrust is taken by graphite lubricated composite bronze bushings.
•The belt runs around the platter through the center of the bearing assembly for no teeter totter effects and no noise.
•Speed stability on par with a master tape: Due to the rigid mounting of motor – platter – tonearm there isn’t any random motion to cause speed instabilities.
•Feedback rejection that lets the Classic Turntable sit near four 15″ subwoofers and having virtually no feedback
•300 RPM precision low noise high torque 24 pole AC synchronous motor drives the platter with a pulley accurate to +/- .0005”
•Lack of random motion between the motor, platter, and tonearm giving the ultimate in low level resolution. Not only does this rigidity improve speed stability, it also allows the retrieval of low level information on par with the world’s great turntables and very close to master tapes.
•Absolutely solid, non-resonating laminated one-piece chassis: This is not a wooden frame; it is a solid laminated 2.5″ thick MDF block with a¾” sandwich of aluminum and steel attached to the top with silicone and long bolts through all the layers. The chassis weighs 30 pounds and is totally non-resonant.
•VPI stainless steel record center weight
•Available in Piano Black or limited edition Rosewood (while supplies last)
The 3D Tonearm:
•Pivot to spindle distance: 258mm
•Effective length: 273.42mm
•Offset angle: 19.98 degrees
•Average RMS distortion: .311%
•RCA jack termination so you can use inter-connect of your choice.
•Adjustable anti-skate controlling device
The VPI Classic 3D Tonearm
The arm looks like a traditional VPI Unipivot arm, except it’s made in a 3D printer. The material is basically epoxy, which forms a rigid, lightweight, structure with good insulation properties. Epoxy is non-crystalline which impedes the transfer of vibration, so it’s the perfect material for tone arms. The shape of the tone arm shaft also adds rigidity to the structure and further prevents the transmission of surface vibrations. The result is a low resonance lightweight tone arm.
This tonearm is backwards compatible and will fit on all past and current VPI Turntables. It is available in 10 and 12 inch lengths.
This revolutionary design utilizes the latest in SolidWorks Software and Finite Element Analysis tools finished in a custom Stereolithography Resin resulting in a tone-arm that noticeably dampens any unwanted device vibration allowing it to transfer flawless sound through its non-crystalline structure. The JMW 3D tone arm is swiftly becoming a staple piece on all turntables whose users value a superior listening experience.
